A Bright Data alternative is a product that replaces some or all of Bright Data for a given workflow. That sentence hides two markets. One is proxy layer: you already have a scraper, you need household ISP exits, and you are tired of KYC queues and platform SKUs. The other is full-stack platform: you want Unlocker, SERP API, datasets, and a named CSM under one MSA. Oxylabs sits in the second column as Bright Data’s closest peer. Aethyn sits in the first.
[!IMPORTANT] Disclosure: Published by Aethyn, a residential proxy provider. Not an independent review. Rankings below are for switching the proxy layer. They are not a second copy of our best residential proxies for scraping scorecard.
Bilateral pages remain the right SERP for “Aethyn vs X”: vs Bright Data, vs Oxylabs, vs Smartproxy / Decodo. This article answers “who else?”.

How We Compared
We asked one question first: do you already have a scraper? Yes → proxy-layer list. No → platform list. Mixing Firecrawl, Apify, and Decodo in one numbered ranking is how this SERP became unusable. Methodology: comparison methodology. Pricing snapshot aligned with residential proxy pricing 2026 (retrieved 22 August 2026).

Proxy layer vs platform
Proxy layer sells an authenticated gateway. You pass host:port plus a username that encodes country, session, and lifetime. You keep Playwright, Scrapy, or Requests. You pay per GB. Aethyn, Decodo, and IPRoyal are in this column. Bright Data and Oxylabs also sell this SKU — they just wrap it in a larger catalog.
Platform sells HTML or JSON out. Unlocker, SERP API, scraping browser, datasets. You pay per request or per record. You may never see a proxy string. That is a different architecture; see scraping API vs proxy-only. Oxylabs and Bright Data compete here with each other. Apify and Firecrawl compete here too, and they are not residential proxy vendors.
Aethyn will not pretend to replace Web Unlocker. If that SKU is why you are on Bright Data, stay or move to Oxylabs’ Unblocker. If that SKU is 10% of your bill and residential bandwidth is 90%, you are in the proxy-layer market.

Why teams leave Bright Data or Oxylabs
Three recurring reasons, none of which are “the pool is fake”:
- Onboarding. Bright Data KYC on residential is a real compliance control and a real delay. Aethyn KYC-verifies peers who supply IPs; it does not park the buyer in a queue before the first authenticated request.
- Packaging. You wanted bandwidth. You were quoted Unlocker + SERP + a minimum. The unused SKUs still shape the contract.
- Published rate. Oxylabs self-serve residential starts at $6/GB for 5 GB on the page we retrieved 22 August 2026. Bright Data PAYG residential is $8 list / $4.00 promo, with the first committed plan at $499 / 141 GB. Aethyn Premium is €2.90/GB at 10 GB and €2.00/GB at 90 GB+. Those are different buyer postures, not a quality insult.
If you need the platform, those prices are the cost of the platform. If you do not, they are the cost of buying the wrong product.
Proxy-layer alternatives
Our #1 pick in this guide
1. Aethyn
Aethyn is a residential-only gateway: Premium and Elite, HTTP and SOCKS5, country on both, city and ISP on Elite, sticky 1–1440 minutes. Credentials are public-rate and self-serve. The Node and Python SDK already accepts provider: "brightdata" | "oxylabs" | "smartproxy" dialects so a targeting string can be rebuilt without rewriting the HTTP client. Gateway becomes proxy.aethyn.io (Premium HTTP 2099 / SOCKS5 1099; Elite HTTP 5499 / SOCKS5 3499).
Pros
Cons
2. Decodo (formerly Smartproxy)
Decodo is the mid-market proxy dashboard with listed 10 / 50 / 100 GB residential SKUs ($3.50 / $3.00 / $2.75 per GB on 22 August 2026) and a 3-day trial. It is the Smartproxy company under a new name — use Aethyn vs Smartproxy, not a new /compare/decodo URL.
Pros
Cons
3. IPRoyal
IPRoyal is the flexible PAYG residential block: $5.25/GB at the listed 10 GB pack, traffic that never expires, custom floor advertised from 10 TB. Use it for bursty small jobs. Do not treat the 10 TB floor as your 10 GB price.
Platform-column notes (not proxy rankings)
Oxylabs is the Bright Data alternative inside the enterprise platform column: scraper APIs, Unblocker, CSM, KYC. If that is your requirement, the honest alternative is Oxylabs, not Aethyn. Read Aethyn vs Oxylabs for the proxy-only contrast.
Bright Data stays the reference, not an “alternative to itself.” Keep it when datasets, Unlocker, and procurement theatre are the product.
Apify / Firecrawl replace scraping software, not residential IPs. Mention them when the user wants to stop maintaining a crawler. Do not drop them into a per-GB table.
Why Aethyn (residential-only)
| Dimension | Aethyn | Bright Data / Oxylabs platform |
|---|---|---|
| What you buy | Residential bandwidth | Bandwidth + APIs + datasets |
| Onboarding | Self-serve | KYC / sales-assisted |
| Rate card | Public EUR /GB | Product-by-product, often committed |
| Config | Username suffixes | Zones, dashboards, multiple SKUs |
| Best for | Teams with a scraper | Teams buying a data platform |

Migration, practically
- Freeze a 100-URL sample you already run through Bright Data or Oxylabs.
- Rebuild the username with the SDK
provideryou are leaving, or hand-assembleaethyn-XXXXX-country-us-session-…-lifetime-30. - Switch host/port. Do not put
user:pass@hostin Playwright — credentials go in fields. - Assert content, not status codes. Compare cost per success for one week.
- Leave Unlocker SKUs in place until that week says you do not need them.
