Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our proxy infrastructure, location targeting, pricing presets, integration syntax, and legal posture.
What are residential proxies?
Residential proxies route web traffic through real residential IP addresses assigned by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to residential homeowners. Unlike datacenter proxies, these carry the highest trust scores, making them virtually indistinguishable from organic human visitors.
Premium vs Elite — what's the difference?
Premium uses a large global pool of 85M+ IPs with country targeting, which is ideal for everyday scraping. Elite uses a highly curated, cleaner pool with city and ISP-level targeting for more demanding, high-security platforms. Learn more on our Premium Residential and Elite Residential pages.
What protocols do you support?
Aethyn supports HTTP, HTTPS, and SOCKS5 proxy connections natively. You can switch protocols easily by changing the gateway port.
How does session rotation work?
Aethyn supports both rotating sessions (fresh IP on every request) and sticky sessions (maintaining the same exit IP for up to 30 minutes for multi-step browser automation workflows).
Why should I use residential proxies instead of datacenter proxies?
Websites protect themselves from automated tools by flagging datacenter IP ranges. Residential proxies bypass these protections because they look like real organic household traffic, minimizing CAPTCHAs and blocks.
How many locations are supported?
Aethyn provides residential exit nodes in over 195 countries worldwide, enabling precise location-based data access.
How many concurrent requests can I send?
Aethyn supports unlimited concurrent threads, allowing you to scale your scraping operations as much as your plan allows.
What are Premium Residential Proxies best used for?
They are optimized for high-volume tasks such as price monitoring, broad web scraping, travel aggregation, and general SEO audits. See details on Premium Residential Proxies.
Do Premium proxies support sticky sessions?
Yes, they support sticky sessions of up to 30 minutes, allowing you to run continuous browser automation sessions on a single IP.
Can I use Premium Residential Proxies for ad verification?
Yes. Premium Residential is a strong fit for ad verification because it lets teams validate regional ad delivery, landing page compliance, and campaign placement from real residential IP locations.
What makes Elite Residential Proxies different?
Elite proxies use a curated high-reputation IP pool with the lowest block rates, and they add city-level and ISP-level targeting. This is essential for sneaker drops, social media, and targets with strict CDNs. See details on Elite Residential Proxies.
Do Elite proxies support ISP targeting?
Yes. You can target specific network operators (ISPs) and major cities directly through the proxy credential parameter format.
Are these proxies good for Shopify?
Yes, our Elite proxies are specifically tested against Shopify's anti-bot measures and are highly optimized for retail releases.
Does Aethyn offer datacenter proxies?
At Aethyn, we focus exclusively on high-reputation Premium and Elite residential proxies. We do not offer datacenter proxies because they are easily detected and pre-emptively blocked by modern security CDNs.
Which is faster: residential or datacenter proxies?
Datacenter proxies have faster raw connection speeds since they run on server hardware, but they suffer from high block rates. Residential proxies route through home networks (slightly higher latency) but offer nearly 100% success rates on secure domains.
How does Aethyn's billing work?
Aethyn charges on a pay-as-you-go, per-byte metered bandwidth basis. There are no subscriptions, monthly minimums, or expiring bandwidth limits. You can configure plans on our Pricing Page.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept credit and debit cards via Stripe, and major cryptocurrencies (USDT, BTC, ETH) via B2BinPay.
Can I get a free trial?
Aethyn offers a starter balance for new users to test our Elite and Premium pools. Sign up here.
How do I authenticate and integrate the proxies?
Aethyn uses standard username:password authentication. The entry point works natively in curl, Python, Node.js, Puppeteer, Playwright, Scrapy, and standard browser automation tools.
How do I target specific countries or cities?
Targeting is configured by appending parameters to your username string, such as `user-country-us` or `user-city-newyork` for Elite.
How do I debug common proxy errors (403, 429, 407, 502)?
A 407 error indicates incorrect credentials. A 429 error means you are rate-limited (use rotating sessions). A 403 means the target blocked you (upgrade to Elite Residential). A 502/504 means the peer disconnected (retry the request).
How does Aethyn source its residential proxy network?
We prioritize compliance and ethical sourcing. Our IPs are sourced from verified KYC partner networks and consent-based SDK users who explicitly opt-in to share idle bandwidth.
Is my data transit secure and private?
Yes. Aethyn routes your requests securely, does not log PII (Personally Identifiable Information), and complies with global data protection frameworks like GDPR and CCPA.
